Safety's of utmost importance!

by: Joe Rankin

We must always make sure our shotgun is unloaded except while in the shooting stand preparing to attempt targets. Actions must remain open at all other times. However, it is acceptable for an over/under to be closed while in a gun rack. The shotgun should be broken open immediately upon removing it from the rack. The muzzle should never be pointed at anything you do not intend to destroy. Do we see more ‘sloppy” gun handling from new shooters or experienced shooters? In my experience, some who have been around the shooting sports a long time tend to forget safety basics. Let’s be careful out there!
